Hilton Head Island waste water free of PCBs

Posted: Updated:
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Earlier this month, DHEC found traces of PCBs in several counties in upstate South Carolina, a potentially harmful product in the sludge created in their waste water facilities.

Tests were recently conducted due to an emergency order issued by DHEC after the upstate utilities and a grease trap in Richland County found the chemicals. It was a precautionary measure.

After thorough testing, PCBs were not found in the waste water facilities on Hilton Head Island.
