Albany youth learn about gardening and healthy eating

Posted: Updated:

Some Albany girls get a hands-on lesson about gardening and healthy eating.

Girls Inc. planted a community garden this afternoon that includes lettuce, cabbage, collards, and strawberries.

The Southwest Georgia Project helped out to teach the girls about health and wellness and where their food comes from.

"It is important because if you ask a child where their groceries come from 90% say the grocery store, so we're trying to teach them a little bit about the food process, and where their foods come from in reality," said Amber Bell, Volunteer, Southwest Georgia Project.

The girls plan to sell some of their produce to the public once it's ready to pick.
