Video: Paddle boarder meets great white shark

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA (KABC/MIKE DURAND/CNN) - A California boarder went looking for sharks, and got quite the scare when he found one.

Mike Durand says he heard two large sharks were spotted off the coast of Manhattan Beach, CA - so he went to check it out with a video camera.

Durand then saw the shark, but wasn't expecting the animal to take a personal interest in him.

The shark even swam right underneath Durand's board and bumped it.

So why did Durand venture out into possibly shark-infested waters?

"It's exciting. I like to live on the edge. I like to surf good-sized waves and do things that scare me a little bit," Durand said. "It makes me feel alive, so when I saw the shark, I was like, aww, there it is. That's the footage I've wanted to get. I will pursue this shark a little bit. I didn't know he would pursue me."

The sharks are believed to be juvenile great whites, measuring between 4 and 7 feet long.

A team of scientists from the Monterey Bay Aquarium have been dispatched to the area in an attempt to tag the sharks.
