Accused shoplifter sought in Charleston Co.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Detectives with the Charleston Police Department are searching for a man who allegedly threatened the life of a gas station employee several days after stealing an 18-pack of beer from the business.

Brian Clayton Shumpert Jr. has been charged with shoplifting, driving under suspension, and intimidation of a witness.

According to affidavits, Shumpert entered a BP Gas Station on Savannah Hwy on July 13 just before 6 a.m., grabbed an 18-pack of Miller Lite, and walked out the door without paying.

Records state Shumpert returned to the gas station on July 27, and told an employee who witnessed the earlier shoplifting, "I'm going to shoot you and your (expletive) brother."
