OVERTIME: Rio Rico clinches winning season

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Rio Rico has arrived.

Looking for their first winning season in school history the 11th ranked Hawks rallied from 18 points down in the first half to beat Amphi 51-50 for their sixth win of the season.

Rio Rico (6-2), a program that has three winless and two one-win seasons in the last ten years, albeit assured itself of a Division IV playoff berth with the victory.

The Hawks got a big night from senior running back Aaron Fanning who ran for 129 yards and returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown.

Kevin Kuhm's squad went into the weekend as the 2nd best team in Section 2 behind Safford. The Bulldogs beat Santa Rita Friday night 36-6 to also move to 6-2.

The Hawks will finish their season at Walden Grove next week before hosting defending Division IV State Champion Chandler Seton Catholic in their season finale.

The Panthers (4-4) saw their postseason hopes take a serious dent with the loss.
