Forward JordanOwens recorded two assists and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 27saves to help the South Carolina Stingrays (1-0-0-1) defeat the Reading Royals(1-1-0-0) 3-2 at Santander Arena Sunday evening.
Royalsforward Stanislav Galiev broke open the scoring early in the contestslipping a shot past Jakaitis at 3:07 from defensemen Michal Cajkovskyand Patrick Wey. The Stingrays responded with a power-play tally fromforward Scott Campbell at 5:37 with help from forwards Peter Boydand Owens. Stingrays forward Marc Hagle made it 2-1 with his firstprofessional goal beating Royals netminder Brandon Anderson (L, 19 saveson 22 shots) at 8:02. Forwards Justin Maylan and Igor Gongalskyadded assists.
Forward ChrisLangkow buried the eventual game-winning marker shorthanded completing a2-on-1 rush with Owens at 9:21 of the final period. The Royals pulled the gamewithin one with four seconds to play on a tally from forward David Marshall.The Stingrays finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play while the Royalswent 0-for-3.
