KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities in Europe and across the world are working to determine the identity of an abducted girl found in Greece.

The girl known as Maria was apparently kidnapped by a Gypsy couple. She was initially believed to be 4 years old but a dental exam now indicates she is 5 or 6.

The FBI and Greek authorities will work to determine that the child isn't that of missing Kansas City toddler Lisa Irwin as well as other missing children. Known as Baby Lisa, the infant was almost a year old when she went missing in early October 2011.

"There is no such thing as a tip too small," Lisa's mother, Debbie Bradley, told CNN.

She broke down and cried in an interview with Inside Edition. She said she hopes the little girl found in Greece is her daughter. But she said if she is not that it gives her additional hope that her daughter will be found.

Lisa's third birthday is next month and an age-progression photo of her was released earlier this month on the second anniversary of her disappearance.

While the ages wouldn't seem to match, the possible similar physical appearance between Lisa and Maria means all possibilities must be ruled out. Maria is blonde and blue-eyed while Lisa was fair and blue-eyed at the time of her disappearance.

"I am not sure there are enough similarities between the girls," a federal law enforcement official told CNN. Still, the official added, the FBI is working with Greek authorities to determine whether the girl could be Lisa.

Media outlets report that the possibility that Maria is Lisa is one of eight serious leads that authorities in Greece are pursuing.

John Picerno, an attorney for Lisa's parents, Debbie Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, said Monday night that he has had contact with the FBI about the investigation in Greece. He said the FBI is working through the appropriate government channels in Greece as they work to determine the girl's identity.

Picerno said he has not been given a timeline for the investigation in Greece.

"Whenever the authorities in Greece investigate and inform us, we will know," he wrote in an email to KCTV5.

While police have focused on the activities of Bradley, the couple has long maintained that they had nothing to do with their daughter's disappearance and she was abducted by someone who sought to raise her.

KCTV5's Chris Oberholtz contributed to this report.
