N. Charleston man cashes in $1 million Powerball ticket

Posted: Updated:
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A North Charleston man is $1 million richer after discovering an old ticket for a September Powerball drawing had the winning numbers.

Lottery officials say the lucky winner came forward last week with a $1 million winning ticket for the Sept. 18 drawing. The same drawing also produced a $399 million jackpot winner in the state.

The $2 lottery ticket was purchased at Tiger Express in Hampton.

So what took so long for the man to come forward and collect his winnings?

The newfound millionaire told officials the winning ticket was in a stack of Powerball tickets that he meant to check, but never got around to. He then waited a week to turn it in.

As far as what to spend the cash on, the winner says he has no plans.

"I don't feel any different," the man said in a statement. "I'm just me, and that's not going to change."
