TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Tybee Island police said 31-year-old Danny Cason died from accidentally drowning. Cason's body was found in the marsh behind Lewis Drive on Sunday afternoon at Horsepen Creek.

People who saw the body told WTOC Cason had a large gash on his forehead, but police said it was a pre-existing injury and did not contribute to Cason's death. An autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning.

However, Cason's ex-wife Christina and mother of his 12-year-old daughter told WTOC by phone the details they know so far just don't add up.

"It's not like he didn't know his way around or where he was going. He's been out there fishing and he loves the water. I just want to know what really happened," Christina Cason said.

The timeline of events also raising concerns. Reports said Cason went out fishing Saturday morning and no one heard from him after that until his body was found the next day. Christina Cason said her ex-husband called his daughter at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday from a friend's house on Tybee and spoke to his daughter for 30 minutes.

She said his death is very suspicious.

"He called us Saturday night and I don't believe he went out fishing at night. That's not like him," Christina Cason said.
