COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A new community support complex will open at Oxbow Meadows on Saturday, Oct. 26 that includes a dog park, festival field, and pavilion.

A grand opening event free and open to the public begins at 10 a.m. with a formal ribbon cutting by Mayor Teresa Tomlinson and other community leaders. Afterward, there will be activities for dogs and dog-lovers, including pet adoption opportunities, dog agility trainers, demos and exhibits from local K-0 police units.

Rescue groups will also be adopting animals. Owners should have proof of their animals' up-to-date rabies shots to qualify.

The dog park is free for public use and will include separate facilities for small and large dogs.

The event is open to people of all ages. A special "Kids Zone" will include bouncy houses, face painting and treats for all, including dogs.

The Community Support Facilities at Oxbow Meadows was built as part of the 1999 Special Local Option Sales Tax in partnership with the Columbus Water Works. Citizens interested in renting the pavilion can contact Parks and Recreation at (706) 653-4176 for hourly rates.
