Stingrays’ Jakaitis Named ECHL Goaltender of the Week
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC -
The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of October 18-20.
The weekly award is Jakaitis' fifth of his career, which is tied for second-most in League history.
The Rochester, Minnesota, native went 1-0-1 with a 1.93 goals-against average and a save percentage of .930 in two appearances last week against the Reading Royals. He made 26 saves in a season-opening 3-2 shootout loss Saturday then stopped 27 shots in a 3-2 win Sunday evening.
Jakaitis, 30, has appeared in 128 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Gwinnett, Charlotte and Columbia posting an overall record of 61-41-20 with 13 shutouts, a 2.57 goals-against average and a save percentage of .921. Jakaitis was the 2012 ECHL Goaltender of the Year while with Gwinnett and tied the ECHL record with three consecutive shutouts from Dec. 17-28, 2011.
The Stingrays celebrate Opening Night, Stingrays Alumni Game, Zooperstars! and 2013-14 schedule giveaway presented by Savage Law Firm at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, October 26 against their in-state rivals, the Greenville Road Warriors, at 7:05 p.m.
