BALTIMORE, MD -

The College of Charleston men's basketball team was picked to finish third in its inaugural season as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association in a vote by the league's coaches, media relations directors and media members released at CAA Basketball Media Day on Tuesday.

The Cougars, under the direction of second-year head coach Doug Wojcik, compiled a 24-11 overall record a year ago with a 14-4 regular-season mark in the Southern Conference. Last season, they ranked No. 55 in the nation in scoring defense (61.7 ppg), No. 61 in field-goal percentage defense (40.4%), No. 17 in three-point field-goal percentage defense (29.5%), No. 30 in rebound margin (+5.4) and No. 72 in blocked shots (4.3 avg).

CofC also earned a postseason berth to the 2013 College Basketball Invitational and returns four of its starters from last year's squad including junior forward Adjehi Baru (Abidjan, Ivory Coast), who was selected to the preseason All-CAA Second Team, and junior point guard Anthony Stitt (Charlotte, N.C.), who received preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention recognition.

Towson was the leading vote getter to win the CAA men's basketball championship title in 2013-14, and top player, senior forward Jerrelle Benimon, was tabbed CAA Preseason Player of the Year. The Tigers were followed by Drexel, CofC, Delaware, William & Mary, Northeastern, 2013 NCAA Tournament participant James Madison, UNCW and Hofstra.

The CAA Men's Basketball Championship will be held on March 7-10 in Baltimore, Md.
