Apartment fire displaces eight families

Multiple units responded to the scene of a fire at the Regency Club Apartments on Thompkins Avenue, near Dougherty High School where an apartment burned.

One of the 25 firefighters who responded was shocked by an electrical cord, but was treated by EMS. AFD rescued two cats from the fire.

Eight families will be displaced by the damaged from fire, smoke, and water, and will be helped by the Red Cross.

Battalion Chief Keith Ambrose said he thinks that the fire started in the kitchen of apartment A-6 and then spread to the adjacent apartments. He says that 70% of A-6 was destroyed, and about 30% of the apartments on either side.

WG&L removed eight electrical boxes from the affected structure.

It was reported at 2:50PM, and firefighters got the fire out about 4:00.
