Kiwah Island house fire under investigation

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Firefighters spent most the night Thursday battling a house fire on Kiawah Island.

Officials with St. John's Fire tell us they were called to a home on Rhetts Bluff Road around 1:30am.  When crews arrived, they say they could seen flames coming from the roof and the back of the home.

Firefighters say everyone was able to make it out of the home safely. One firefighter was treated on-scene for a sprained ankle.

Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the morning to put out any hot spots. They say part of the roof in the back of the house collapsed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

We're told crews from St. John's, City of Charleston Fire as well as Charleston County EMS, Charleston County Sheriff's Office and Kiawah Security all responded to the fire.
