COURTLAND, AL (WAFF) -

A newly-created committee will meet for the first time on Wednesday in Lawrence County.

The committee's goal is to help the county recover after the International Paper plant in Courtland closes next year in March. Lawrence County Commissioner Bobby Burch formed the committee, which will figure out the impact the International Paper's closure will have on the region.

The six member group includes School Superintendent Heath Grimes, a former director of economic development and County Commissioner Mose Jones, Jr. Burch said the committee will share information and work with other agencies like the Governor's Office and the Department of Commerce.

1100 people will lose their jobs when the plant closes.

The committee meets at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
