Report: Man who led officers on moped chase busted for drugs

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a man who crashed his moped at a hotel during a police chase in August was arrested again at the same hotel for drug manufacturing.

The Charleston Police Department charged 42-year-old Larry D. Smith and 33-year-old Melanie A. Postell with manufacturing cocaine base, possession of cocaine, possession of schedule IV and possession of marijuana.

On Tuesday afternoon, the CPD's Special Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at a hotel room at the InTown Suites on 2236 Savannah Hwy.

A police report states authorities found drugs which included .5 grams of marijuana, .05 grams of cocaine and a digital scale next to drugs on top of a refrigerator.

Smith had been arrested at the same hotel in August when police say they caught him speeding through the hotel.

A police report states officers who were chasing him caught up to him after Smith crashed the moped at the parking lot.
