Deputy on patrol finds $137k in cash during traffic stop in Colleton Co.

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office says a deputy who pulled over a minivan during a traffic stop found $137,000 in cash.

On Tuesday at 9:26 p.m., a deputy on patrol stopped a white 2013 Toyota minivan near mile marker 45 on I-95 after the deputy reported spotting the vehicle commit a traffic violation.

An incident report states that the driver then consented to a search of the vehicle.

While searching the minivan, deputies found a large sum of money inside a luggage in the rear of the minivan totaling $137,400.01

A K-9 unit was then used and alerted authorities to the presences of narcotic odors on the money.

A sheriff's office report states that the money found was "abandoned" by both occupants of the vehicle. According to investigators, no arrests have been made.

Officials with the sheriff's office say Homeland Security investigators were called to assist in the incident and are continuing the investigation.
