NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston appears to be out of the running for assembling a new Boeing airplane. The Puget Sound is close to landing the new 777-x.
The Washington governor is calling his state's lawmakers into special session on Wednesday to approve an incentives package to ensure Boeing's new 777-x and composite wing will be built in Washington state.
He wants to move fast and is asking lawmakers to approve the package in one week.
Union officials joined the governor in a news conference on Tuesday. According to the Machinists union, their members will vote on a Boeing proposal that would guarantee the 777-x work in Washington. In exchange, Boeing gets an eight year labor agreement.
The machinists say the 777-x means 10,000 jobs and an additional 10,000 indirect jobs in the Puget Sound.
