Parris Island Marines celebrate Corps' birthday

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Marines at Parris Island are inviting members of the military and the public to attend a cake-cutting ceremony and uniform parade in honor of the Marine Corps' 238th birthday.

Friday's scheduled event begins at 10 a.m. with a cake-cutting ceremony in the All-Weather Training Facility.

The Parris Island Marine Band is performing as Marines display various historical uniforms and the flags used during the 200 years of the Corps.

Visitors to Parris Island must have valid photo identification. Drivers must have a valid license, a copy of the vehicle registration and auto insurance.

The Marine Corps was established on Nov. 10, 1775, in Philadelphia.
