Investigators searching for armed robber who left victim unconscious

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Beaufort County investigators are looking for a suspect who stole a man's wallet after knocking him unconscious on St. Helena Island.

On Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the Beaufort county Sheriff's Office responded to Coffin Point Road in reference to a reported assault and robbery.

A 26-year-old man said he was walking down the street when a black vehicle drove up. According to the victim, a large black male then got out of the vehicle and asked the victim if he remembered him.

Authorities say the suspect then struck the victim in the head with an unknown object, leaving him temporarily unconscious.

When the victim regained consciousness, he said he went to his home where family members called police. The victim said the suspect had stolen his wallet while he was unconscious.

The sheriff's office says the victim was unable to provide any further description of the suspect or the suspect's vehicle. Deputies were told by the victim that he did not recognize the suspect.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.
