North Charleston police arrest man in connection to Michigan murder

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators say they have arrested a North Charleston man in connection with the murder of a medical student in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Police arrested 21-year-old Shaquille Jones last Tuesday at his North Charleston apartment.

According to investigators, a tip led to Jones' arrest. The tipster said someone wanted by Ann Arbor, Michigan police for murder was in the North Charleston area.

North Charleston police then arrested Jones at his apartment on Elms Plantation Boulevard. Officers say they also found two stolen guns in a duffle bag in the apartment.

Both guns were loaded, according to a police report.

The second man arrested from South Carolina has been identified as 20-year-old Joei Jordan of Sumter, according to the Sumter Item newspaper.

The victim, 25-year-old Paul Dewolf, was found shot in the neck in July. Investigators say a co-worker found Dewolf dead in his fraternity house.

After months of searching, police say they focused on Jordan. Reports say Jordan may be extradited to Michigan as early as this week.

No word on when Jones will be taken back to Michigan. He has not been officially charged yet in Dewolf's death. The victim's parents are relieved to hear about the arrests, but still want to know why their son was targeted.

Police say they've arrested a third suspect in Dewolf's murder. That suspect apparently is not from South Carolina. Ann Arbor police won't release the names of any of the suspects until they are brought back to Michigan and arraigned on the charges.

Investigators say it appears the suspects did not know the victim. A motive for the murder has not been released.
