Charleston police officer struck by motorist

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a Charleston police officer was transported to the hospital Monday night after being struck by a motorist in West Ashley.

Police spokesperson Charles Francis says the accident took place at the intersection of Castlewood and Savage around 8:24 p.m.

The officer received minor injuries and was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina, Francis says. Francis later said the officer is okay.

The accident is being investigated by Highway Patrol.

It is unknown if any charges have been filed against the motorist.
