CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Charleston is getting a new park near the Fort Sumter Visitors Center and the South Carolina Aquarium.
Mayor Joe Riley and members of the city council are scheduled to break ground on Wednesday for the new Gadsdenboro Park not far from the Cooper River.
The five-acre park will have fields that can be used for soccer and football. The perimeter will have outdoor areas for playgrounds, bocce ball, chess tables and sculptures.
The concept for the park was developed from suggestions from the public in a design workshop.
