Police sergeant killed in motorcycle wreck on Dorchester Rd.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Police say one of their own, Sergeant Tony Person, Jr. was killed in a motorcycle wreck while off duty early Saturday morning.

According to police, the accident took place in the area of Dorchester Road and Trump Street shortly after 1 a.m.

Police say a vehicle pulled out into the path of Person. He swerved in an attempt to miss the Dodge Journey, but struck its rear quarter panel and was then hit by a second vehicle.

Person was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash.

Charleston Police say Person has served the Lowcountry for 13 years.

PoliceChief Gregory Mullen released this statement:

"The department is in shock from the news aboutthe death of Sergeant Tony Person.  We are mourning the loss of adedicated police officer, father, and friend who will be dearly missed byeveryone.  Tony served the Department and community with honor,dedication, and humility."
