Bicyclist in critical condition following hit-and-run in West Ashley

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A man is in critical condition after authorities say he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in West Ashley.

Twenty-nine-year-old Terrell Wright was biking home early Sunday morning when he was hit along St. Andrews Boulevard, near St. Dennis Drive, according to Wright's family.

"Around 1:30 Sunday morning I got the phone call," says his eldest brother Ivan Wright. "It was telling me that my brother has been in a very bad accident."

According to the police report, the vehicle fled the scene and was not found during a canvas of the area.

"I would hope they would find it within their heart to come forward because it would be the right thing to do," says Wright.

Rudy Frierson lives on St. Dennis Drive and heard the commotion. He says he sees Wright occasionally biking through.

"He was in this area, and they were trying to get him stabilized before they put him in the ambulance to take him on. I feel sorry for the guy. I really do."

Wright's family says he has some swelling in the brain and was put on a respirator Monday. They say they are looking for the "mystery" person who stayed with Wright until paramedics arrived.

According to investigators, authorities located pieces of the suspect's vehicle's fender which they describe as a green in colored plastic bumper with a black plastic bumper attachment.
