Boyd Scores Twice in Loss to Gladiators

Forward Peter Boyd scored two goals and the South Carolina Stingrays (10-2-1-1) erased three one-goal deficits, but fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators (5-10-0-0) 6-4 at the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday night.
 
Gladiators forward Kurtis Bartliff opened the scoring 8:00 into the opening period tapping a bouncing puck over Stingrays goaltender Brooks Ostergard (L, 23 saves on 28 shots) for his fifth goal of the season.
 
The Stingrays tied the contest at 2:32 of the second period when Boyd lifted a shot past Gladiators netminder Peter Delmas (W, 29 saves on 33 shots) at the left-wing circle. Defenseman Ryan Grimshaw and forward Patrick Gaul added assists. Gladiators forwardMarshall Everson reclaimed the lead on the power-play at 10:13. Less than a minute later, Boyd grabbed his fifth goal of the season from forwards Lindsay Sparks and Anthony Collins at 10:58. After the ensuing faceoff, forward Maxime Lagault put Gwinnett up 3-2 at 11:53. For the third time in the period, the Stingrays responded with a man-advantage marker from rookie Marc Hagel at 18:33 with help from forwards Jordan Owens and Chad Painchaud.
 
Stingrays forward Wayne Simpson gave the Stingrays their first lead of the game with his first professional goal at 10:60 of the final frame firing a one-time pass from forward Scott Campbell past the blocker of Delmas. Painchaud recorded the second assist. Gladiators defenseman Justin Weller knotted up the contest 4-4 with his first goal off the season at 13:31 and forward Mike Embachput them up for good with his second marker of the campaign at 15:16. Forward Evan Bloodoff sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 50 seconds to play. The Stingrays finished the contest 1-for-4 on the power play while the Gladiators went 1-for-2.
 
The Stingrays take on the Greenville Road Warriors tomorrow, Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina and return to the North Charleston Coliseum to host the Road Warriors on Sunday, November 24at 3:05 p.m. on Kid's Day.
