CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. is recovering after undergoing hip joint replacement surgery Thursday morning.
City of Charleston Media Relations Director Barbara Vaughn says Mayor Riley's surgery went "extremely well" and is expected to have a standard course of recovery. He will remain in the hospital for a few days before completing his recovery at home.
Vaughn says the mayor's left hip joint has been the source of pain and discomfort for a number of years.
Mayor Riley will remain in regular contact with his office while at home, and expects to return to the office soon, according to a release.
