Oregon Christmas tree pulled from storm damage

Posted: Updated:
OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The City of Oregon is pulling something positive from the storm that swept through on Sunday, destroying several homes and displacing families.

A tornado ripped up homes and tore down trees, but one such tree has been given a special purpose. According to the Oregon Police Department, the tree will be decorated and used as the city's Christmas tree this year.

The tree was moved to the corner of Navarre and Wheeling Wednesday. City officials say it is the largest Christmas tree the city has had, and residents are embracing it.

"I think it's really great that something good is coming out of something bad," said Joyce Huntzinger. "So many people were affected and now it will bring a little happiness to the season."

Officials are planning to decorate the tree soon.
