BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Airman Randy Davenport was not expecting this kind of welcome when he arrived at the airport Friday. He says was even more surprised when he came home.
"I didn't realize that a lot of people actually cared to do volunteer work to help out each other."
For the last six months, the Pennsylvania native was stationed in the Kandahar Province in Afghanistan. He says his neighbor was looking after his yard, but he was expecting to come home and spend the next two weeks working in it. But, yesterday the Sangaree community pulled together for hours and took care of that plan.
"When I came here seen that the yard was all cleaned up and stuff like that, and there was nothing on the roof because I knew for a fact there was going to be a lot of pine straw up there, and there was a group of people out here greeting me, most of them I did not know."
