One of the state's most highly recruited players in the class of 2015 is apparently off the board as Woodland Defensive End Michael Barnett committed to Virginia Tech on Monday.
The Hokies were the first team to offer Barnett a scholarship and he chose to go there over Clemson, Florida State and Tennessee among others.
"I really love the atmosphere as well as the coaching staff and their tradition with the lunch pail defense" Barnett said in a message to Live 5 News.
Barnett helped lead Woodland to a 10-2 record this season. He had 89 tackles on defense including 31 for a loss.
Recruiting services have him listed as high as a 4 star prospect. Barnett was also considered one of the top 10 prospects in the state for the class of 2015.
