MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Mountain View is heading overseas to play some American Football in 2014.

Head coach Clarence "Bam" McRae and the Mountain Lions have been selected to play in the Global Ireland Football Tournament. The event will welcome 12 high schools from the United States and Canada to Dublin plus Division I college programs Penn State and Central Florida.

"We definitely want to try to continue to make statements from year-to-year and give our kids the chance to experience once in a lifetime things when you come to Mountain View High School," said McRae.

This is the second-year of the event and the Lions are the third Arizona school to participate. Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep and Chandler Hamilton both played in the initial event in 2012. That tournament also featured the Notre Dame Fighting Irish who beat Navy 50-10.

The Lions do not yet know their opponent for the game next August.

"I had the pleasure to meet Coach McRae last winter in Tucson," said Patrick Steenberge, President of Global Football. "I love his passion for the young men he coaches, and will be proud to help them all experience Ireland."

Mountain View High School will have a number of fund raisers to help defer the cost of sending their team to Ireland.

The first will be a Walkathon that will take place the Martin Luther King weekend in January. Corporate Sponsorships will also be available for local businesses interested in supporting the Mountain Lions. Interested parties can contact Mel Greenberg at melgberg@me.com.
