Driver responsible for the death of husband and wife on Ohio Turnpike now in jail

SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

A Toledo husband and wife were killed in a car crash on the Ohio Turnpike Thursday evening. It happened in Sandusky County.

Investigators say Andrew D. Gans, 24, from Kent, was speeding westbound when he rear-ended the couple's Chrysler town car. Cop say Gans' Infinity then went off the side of the road and caught fire. He was able to escape.

He is currently incarcerated in the Lucas County Jail where an extradition hearing will be held/ bond set.

Gans has been charged with two counts of  vehicular homicide with a reckless specification. 

Police say after the Chrysler was hit it stopped in the center lane and burst into flames. The two occupants did not make it out.  They have been id'd as Wilbur L. McCoy, 77, who was driving and his wife Margaret A. McCoy, 77.
