Crews responding to reported gas leak in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston Police Department say crews are responding to a reported gas leak in downtown.

According to police, the incident is on 55 Vanderhorst Street where workers may have hit a gas line.

The Charleston Fire Department says the street is closed between Coming and Thomas streets. Pitt Street between Vanderhorst and Calhoun, and Duncan between Pitt and Coming streets are also closed due to the gas leak.

Homes in the immediate area have been evacuated.
