Volunteers offer free health insurance help

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - It's a one-stop shop for all your health insurance questions.

For the month of December, volunteers from the South Carolina Progressive Network, teamed with the City of Charleston, are offering assistance to people looking to sign up for health care insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

"I've been insured all my life and get confused on co-pays, deductibles and all that," said Libby Smith, a local business owner and health care volunteer.

The center opened its doors Monday, and has already serviced over one hundred people.  Volunteers will offer help through December 20th.

"They make their own decisions about what's best for them," said lead navigator Loreen Myerson.
"We are not affiliated with the insurance industry, and we do not receive any kind of commission for signing folks up."

The center is located at 360 Concord Street Downtown, and is open Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

Those interested in using the service are encouraged to schedule an appointment at 843-475-2859.
