Coroner identifies body found near old Navy base as missing man

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The coroner's office says a body that was found floating in the Cooper River across from the old Navy Base was that of a 38-year-old missing man.

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said the body of James Brown was found Thursday morning.

Authorities say Brown was last seen walking away from a wreck on the Don Holt Bridge on Nov. 24.The Charleston County Sheriff's Office was working the case as a missing person.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Officers with the Charleston Police Department were spotted at the Daniel Island Marina during the Thursday morning incident.

The Charleston County Marine Patrol Unit was also assisting in the recovery efforts.
