Authorities say a 36-year-old Upstate man is behind bars after investigators discovered he and his minor child had produced moonshine in a homemade distillery at a house in Union County.

The Union County Sheriff's Office has charged Ty Ray Jones with criminal domestic violence, unlawful neglect of a child, unlawful manufacturing of liquor and unlawful possession of a distillery.

Deputies responded to a home on Jonesville-Lockhart Highway in Union after Jones' family members reported that Jones had assaulted them, and threatened violence against them and their pets.

According to the family members, Jones was "highly intoxicated" from the moonshine he had produced.

An incident report states that Jones' minor child had participated in making the moonshine and described to deputies the process of how it's made.

Investigators say a homemade distillery was found in the home.
