EDMOND, OK (KFOR/CNN) - Animal rescue officials saved two tiny dogs from a painful death.
The weather is not fit for man or beast as a winter storm moves through the region.
So when a passing driver spotted a dog crate out near the road, naturally he stopped.
What he found inside shocked him - two tiny shivering Chihuahuas.
The good Samaritan raced them to the Edmond animal shelter, where Nicki Smith was waiting.
Smith said what's really puzzling is the little dogs were actually wearing jackets.
"Putting coats on little tiny, skinny dogs, then sticking them out in the cold, I can't really get compassion out of that, but who knows what their motivation was," she said. "I'd like to find out."
Officials said the animals have visible signs of abuse.
They were well underweight, and one of the dogs appears to have a broken tail.
But once they recover, shelter officials said they feel sure both dogs will find loving homes.
