Mt. Pleasant has new option for people looking for health care

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Mount Pleasant has a new option for people looking for health care. In October, Blue Cross Blue Shield's retail store opened their doors.

For those signing up during open enrollment under the new Affordable Care Act we found out there are some exceptions to which hospitals and medical providers will be covered.

The big question when it comes to healthcare  is "Do you accept my insurance?"

As the Affordable Care Act takes center stage starting Jan. 1 and people continue to sign up for health coverage, it's important to know exactly what you are signing up for and which health providers and hospitals are covered.

Blue Cross Blue Shield South Carolina Senior Vice President Terry Pace says currently Blue Cross Blue Shield only has a contract with East Cooper Medical Center, as well as Trident. So if your doctor is at either MUSC or Roper you would not be covered.

"we have agreements with the other hospitals and if they want to take the most benefit of their plan they need to go to an in network provider," Pace says.

Some Urgent Care Centers are also included in coverage. But
Pace says it's important to always ask about your individual plan and see which medical providers are included in your plan.

For those with existing insurance you can also check with your employer or call the number on the back of your card or visit www.southcarolinablue.com
