CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say a man wanted in connection to a sexual assault case in 1997 was arrested following an audit of the sheriff's office warrant database system.
Investigators say Trevor Kilgo was arrested in Florida and extradited back to South Carolina on Dec. 6. Kilgo was identified as a suspect in a criminal sexual conduct case that was reported to the sheriff's office on Nov. 25, 1997.
An arrest warrant for criminal sexual conduct with a minor 1st degree was then issued for his arrest on April 10, 1998.
A release by the sheriff's office states that, "With the advances in technology and the creation of a new warrant database within the Sheriff's Office, a thorough audit and validation process of all warrants held by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office was ordered to be conducted. As a result of this audit, the arrest warrant for Travis Kilgo was discovered as not being entered into NCIC. Once the warrant for Kilgo was entered in NCIC, he was located and arrested by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office in Florida, within 24 hours."
The sheriff's office is expected to hold a press conference Tuesday morning regarding Kilgo's arrest.
