Man gets life for execution style murder of town councilman's son

LINCOLNVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A man charged in the murder of the son of a Linolnville town councilman was sentenced to life in prison.

According to online court records, James Reginald Rose was given a sentence of life in prison on Friday for the murder of Leland Shannon Jr., who was the son of Lincolnville Town Councilman Leland Shannon Sr.

Investigators say the shooting happened at a home on West Carolina Avenue in Lincolnville on Jan. 24, 2012. According to authorities, Shannon was shot once in the head, twice in the upper body and once on the leg.

According to a court affidavit, Rose also held a gun to a woman's head before fleeing the scene of the crime.

Shannon's father, Leland Shannon Sr., said his son was gunned down in front of one of his seven children.

Deputies say two other suspects, who have not been identified, were with Rose when Shannon was shot.
