CHARLESTON, SC -

Kevin Higgins will be stepping down as the Head Football Coach at The Citadel to take an assistant coaching job at Wake Forest the school confirmed on Monday afternoon.

Higgins has spent the last 9 seasons leading the Bulldogs. He's gone 43-58 over that time with his best record coming in 2007 and 2012 when they finished 7-4. He was voted as the SoCon Coach of the Year in 2012.

Higgins will be working under new Wake Forest Head Coach Dave Clawson, who worked with Higgins as an assistant coach at Lehigh back in 1994 and 1995. Reports say his title will be Assistant Head Coach and Wide Receivers coach.

"I am so thankful for the nine seasons at The Citadel," said Higgins in a statement. "I would like to thank General Rosa, (athletic director) Larry Leckonby, the coaches and players for making our time here so enjoyable. I have never in my life been associated with so many loyal and supportive alums as we have at The Citadel.

"On behalf of Kay and our family, I would like to say thank you for allowing us to make an impact in the lives of those at The Citadel and the Charleston community. We will be Bulldog fans forever."

"While I am sorry to see Kevin leave The Citadel, I wish him and his family all the best as he embarks on this new chapter of his life and career," Leckonby said in the same statement. "He has been an outstanding coach and role model for his players during his time here as well as a true ambassador for The Citadel, its athletic department and football program."

Ben Dupree, who played quarterback at The Citadel the last 4 years under Higgins, seemingly put his reaction on Twitter this afternoon tweeting "Its a business".
