JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A 20-year-old woman is behind bars after police say she stole nearly $10,000 worth of jewelry at a home she was hired to clean.
The Charleston Police Department arrested 20-year-old Whitney Nicole Dierksheide last Saturday.
Dierksheide's arrest stems from an incident on Feb. 24 when authorities responded to a home on Wayfarer Lane on James Island in reference to a larceny.
The victim said on Feb. 13, a cleaning company employee stole 14 pieces of jewelry from her home. Police say the victim contacted the manager of the cleaning company after discovering the theft.
A police report states the manager was able to retrieve most of the jewelry from her employee.
The jewelry stolen included a diamond ring, a pearl ring, a purple butterfly ring, a ruby necklace and a pearl bracelet. According to an incident report, the stolen jewelry totaled $9750.
The victim said that all of the items were stolen from a jewelry box in her bedroom.
Dierksheide was also charged for the theft of a computer at a home in downtown on Lockwood Drive. Police say the victim said someone had taken a his computer tablet on Feb. 13.
