JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - There was a big celebration at Joint Base Charleston on Wednesday. It's the 20th anniversary of the C-17 Globemaster.
The ceremony was marked by the first C-17 in the Air Force inventory that reached 20 thousand flight hours.
The Globemaster brings different types of cargo to bases overseas, transports patients and does airlift and air drop missions.
"This is the most modern and capable strategic air lifter that the Air Force and even the entire world has right now," said Col. Jamie Fontanella."It's far more modern than anything we've flown before which previously was the C-141."
The Boeing plant in Long Beach, Calif. has been producing the C-17 Globemaster aircraft up until the Air Force received its 223rd and last airplane this summer.
