Emergency officials in Cornelius say a firefighter was treated and released after getting minor injuries while battling a fire at a home Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out at a two-story house on Country Club Lane around 8:30 p.m. Investigators said the fire started in the back of the home.

According to Mark Auten with the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal's Office, the cause of the house fire remains under investigation as of late Thursday morning.

A Cornelius firefighter was injured, officials said, when part of the structure collapsed. That firefighter was taken to Carolinas Medical Center - Main.

WBTV has learned that he sustained only minor injuries and was released from the hospital Wednesday night. He is sore but in good spirits, according to Auten

Police told WBTV that no one was inside the home when the fire started.

Several investigators are at the scene of the fire working on finding the cause.
