CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say a Walmart shoplifter is behind bars after he was caught on camera leaving the store with 15 computer tablets he never paid for.
Robert Lee Smith, 40, was arrested Monday and charged with property crime enhancement. He is also facing charges of possession of cocaine, providing false information to police, and contempt of court.
According to an incident report, the Loss Prevention Team at the West Ashley Walmart was alerted on November 18 that 15 tablets were missing.
The missing Nexus, Asus, and Windows tablets totaled approximately $5,355.
Employees told police surveillance video showed Smith walking out of the store with the tablets without paying for the merchandise.
Smith was identified by Walmart Loss Prevention as a known shoplifter, and they already has his name and social security number, according to a report.
Police say the tablets were stolen over a period of time beginning on October 1.
Smith is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center. His bond was set at $32,500.
