Police: Drunk man attacked woman, slashed her tires

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A 29-year-old Johns Island man accused of drunkenly attacking a woman and slashing her tires last month has been arrested, according to Charleston police.

Richard Shaun Gainey was arrested Wednesday and charged with third-degree assault and battery and injury to real property.

The report states the victim told police she was out celebrating Gainey's birthday on November 10, as the two were friends. She went home after Gainey became intoxicated. Gainey later went to the victim's home and began knocking on her window.

When the victim went outside, police say Gainey threw her on the driveway, covered her mouth, and began to choke her. He then picked the victim up, forced her into his vehicle, and told her she would die if she did not go with him.

The victim told police she was able to escape after Gainey calmed down.

The report states police later discovered both the back tires on the victim's car were flat, with one of the tires showing an apparent gash. The victim told police Gainey must have vandalized her car before he left.

Police say the victim had multiple cuts on her face and elbows, but did not require medical attention.
