CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say a 24-year-old West Ashley man accused of having sex with a minor has also been charged in an accident that left a woman with permanent brain injuries.
The Charleston Police Department charged Ronald David Ratliff with leaving the scene of a collision with injuries, driving under suspension and reckless driving.
Ratliff was arrested on Tuesday for another incident and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor. In that incident, he's accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
Ratliff's traffic charges stem from an incident on Oct. 27, when police say Ratliff sped out of a downtown parking lot with a female passenger.
According to police, Ratliff lost control of the vehicle which left the roadway and struck a tree.
Authorities say Ratliff left the scene and did not help the female victim. Affidavits state a witness identified Ratliff as the driver of the car.
Investigators say the female victim suffered a head injury which caused a permanent brain injury, a compound broken left arm, a dislocated hip, a broke pelvis and a broken leg.
Ratliff is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center. His bond was set at $51,957.50.
