Coast Guard hires company to clean sunken shrimping boat

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) - The Coast Guard has hired a company to remove the fuel from a shrimp boat that sank in Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant earlier this week.

Moran Environmental has been hired to remove fuel and any other hazardous substances from the Lady Eva.

The boat has been raised, pumped out and is floating again. The Coast Guard says the boat will be surrounded by soft padding to absorb any remaining pollution.

The Coast Guard says it has not seen any significant pollution from the boat.

The 70-foot boat sank at the dock Wednesday. The Coast Guard has not said why the boat sank.
