MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

A fundraiser to help raise money for a local shrimper whose boat sank in Shem Creek earlier this week will be held Sunday.

Shem Creek Fisheries will hold a fundraiser for Rocky Magwood on Sunday, December 22 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Miriam Brown Community Center located at 118 Royal Avenue.

Magwood's shrimping boat, the Lady Eva, began to sink while docked at Shem Creek Tuesday night, early Wednesday morning. Although the boat was never completely submerged, Magwood says crews worked all day Thursday to salvage the vessel but it is too far gone.

The boat has since been raised, pumped out, and is floating again.

Sunday's fundraiser will feature trigger fish donated by Abundant Seafood, and Lowcountry chicken bog from Charleston Bay Gourmet. Any donation will be accepted, with money going towards helping the local businessman recover what was lost.

Coast Guard officials have not said what caused 70-foot the boat to sink.
