Suspected Summerville bank robber nabbed in Massachusetts

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Dorchester County investigators say a 28-year-old man suspected of robbing a bank in Summerville was captured by authorities in Massachusetts.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office says Brian Stephen Dyer of Summerville was located and apprehended in the Seekonk, Mass. area on New Year's Day at 3:39 a.m.

The Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team with the assistance of the police and FBI arrested Dyer who was booked in the New Bedford House of Corrections on a $1 million cash bond. Dyer is awaiting extradition to Dorchester County.

Dyer's arrest stems from the Dec. 23 armed robbery of the TD Bank on 1900 Trolley Road in Summerville.

Investigators say a subsequent investigation led detectives to identify Dyer, and a warrant was issued on Dec. 26 for armed robbery. According to authorities, Dyer was believed to have the Summerville area soon after the incident, and was believed to be in Rhode Island or Massachusetts.

The case remains under investigation.
